BIOGRAPHY: Information from "THE CRAM SOURCEBOOK", Volume Two, compiled by Michael A. Cram and published in 1996. "Joel Cram was born in Hampton Falls about 1743/44, according to "The History of Deerfield". Cram (sources) lists his birthdate as Aug 12, 1749. He died in Deerfield on Apr 17, 1841. He first settled in Deerfield and built the house later occupied by G. J. French. Mr. Cram signed the Association Test in 1776. In 1789, he sold his farm to Capt.Jonathan Jeness of Rye and moved to Meredith. Joel first married, Betsey BATCHELDER, who was born in North Hampton in 1749, a daughter of Deacon Stephen and Elizabeth (Tucker) Batchelder. His first wife died about 1777, (according to records of Frank and Charles Cram of Boston). He married, for his second wife, Sarah HOITT, daughter of Enoch and Sarah (French) Hoitt, who was born Jul 6, 1750, in Salisbury. His first two children, by his first wife, were probably born in Deerfield. Three children by his second wife, Sarah, are said to have been born in Meredith, according to family records." Notes: (1) If Joel did not sell his farm and move to Meredith in Belknap county until 1789, how were his three children with Sarah, who were born prior to 1789, said to have been born in Meredith? (2) How did Joel happen to died in Deerfield and not in Meredith? (3) Family sources indicated Joel Cram died 13 Aug 1828 in Meredith - not 17 Apr. 1841.
