BIOGRAPHY: From the book "English Orgins of New England Families" First Series - Vol. III, pages 729-733: John Cram was baptized in 1596/97 and married in Bilsby in 1624 to Hester (or Esther) White. Their first three children were baptized in Bilsby, the last in 1629. Between 1629 and 1632 they appear to have move, as their next child was baptized in 1632 in Farlsthrope, a small village some 1-3/4 miles se of Alford. Records show that John Cram and his family are next found living near Boston (Brookline) on the Muddy River, where his house-lot was "bounded" in 1637/8. ("Bounded" - boundaries approved.) The book states as its source: Second Report of the Boston Record Commissioners, pp 22-3, and goes on to say: "The allotments of Jan. 1637/38 were evidently the final record of the act of a committee appointed at a prior meeting on 12 Dec 1635." The book concludes: "Therefore, our John Cram may have reached New england in 1635 or earlier. Probably, he came over either with William and Ann Hutchinson in 1634 or with Wheelwright in 1636." It is next know that John Cram moved his family with the Wheelwright group to Exeter (N.H.), as "his name is attached to the Combination (alliance) of 1639". John and Hester last four known children were all reportedly born in Exeter. It is recorded that their child, Joseph, drown at Exeter in 1648. In 1650, they again followed Wheelwright to Hampton (N.H.) and settled on the south side of Taylor's river (now Hampton Falls). It was there that Hester died in 1667 and four years later, John, died and was buried. In the book, New Hamphire Ancestry, it states that "in the record of his death he (John) is styled as 'good old John Cram, one just in his generation.'" In his will, Benjamin and Thomas, are mentioned and two daughters, Mary and Lydia. Note (1): The family records of Helen Cram Starr report that JOHN CRAM was born 29 Jan 1596/1597 in Bilsby, Lincolnshire, England and died 5 May 1681/1682 in Hampton, Rockingham, New Hampshire. Wife was reported to be Hester or Esther White born Abt 1600 in same place as John, her husband. Her records also report that John's father was one, Thomas Cram, spouse Jane (no last name.) Thomas's father was John, who was from Healdarsham, Germany.
