Moved to Harrison Co.,InWashington's mother died when he was 7 or 8.He met Tamer Stevens in Corydon, they were both 19.Their 1st 2 children were born in Corydon, IN.In 1830, he followed his father to Adams Co., IL, & acquired a farm nearby.He lived there for 20 years & had 10 more children there.Washington first heard about the LDS Church from David Evans, the late bishop of Lehi, Utah Co., UT.Tamer was Baptized, by Jacob Meyers in October, 1830, and Washington followed in March 1841, Being Baptized by David Evans.They became close personal friends of Joseph Smith, and other leaders of the Church.Washington was a carpenter and helped build the Nauvoo Temple, Nauvoo, ILIn 1844, when the Prophet Joseph Smith was killed, Washington was in Indiana Preaching the gospel, and campaigning for Joseph Smith to be the next President of the United States.In 1850, he moved his family to winter quarters, near what is now called Council Bluff, IA.He spent 2 years there getting ready to cross the plains to Salt Lake.Washington & his family joined the Captain Jolly Co, which was one of 21 companies to cross the plains in 1852. There were 350 members of the Jolly Co., who left the Missouri river on June 11, 1852, and arrived in Salt Lake Valley September 10, 1852.They settled on Dry Creek, South east of Sandy.In the spring they moved to Millcreek (it is now 4338 Highland Drive).He was a prominent Church worker, and was counselor to Bishop Ruben Miller of the Millcreek Ward, from 1859 till 1882, when Bishop Miller died,He was ordained a high priest March 26, 1856, by David Pettegrew and Ordained a Patriarch March 30, 1884. He was first counselor in the Bishopric of the Mill Creek war for many years with Reuben Miller as bishop.On May 22, 1856, he entered into a polygamous marriage with Rachel Sharp, and they had a daughter named Angeline, Born March 10, 1857 at Millcreek.He also married Sarah Ann Cook Walters on December 19, 1863.He died October 2, 1902, at the age of 96.The Speakers at the funeral included Apostle Hyrum Mack Smith, Bishop J.C. Hamilton of Millcreek and U.G. Miller of Murray.He was buried in the Millcreek Cemetery.
