But Edna Fidero Michaels, Virginia (Figueroa) and others pronounced it Fi-ther-o'-a. Ivy was told that Fideroa (as opposed to Figueroa) was a name used in the Basque region of northern Spain. They had always heard that Casildo Fideroa was Castilian Spanish; Castile is a province in the north of Spain. Theodore's given name in Spanish was Teodoro Jose Fideroa.

Employers kept using name of Fedora, even after I tried to correct them. I signed this name for years in order to cash my paychecks. It became a habit with me. Since my father was uneducated and not sure of the correct spelling of his name, I believed my spelling was just as correct as any others. Cousins spell their name Figueroa." (Reference: Family Group Sheet returned by Gus Fedora to Barbara Teemsma.) He worked as an operating engineer, excavation and grading work for Silva & Hill Construction Co., for 18 years. The Fedoras lived at 185 S. Virginia Ave. in Pasadena for the 31 years before his death. He is buried in Rose Hills Memorial Park, Pasadena. (Reference: Death certificate).
