Ferdinand Koehn: Birth and death dates from death certificate. Ferdinand's occupation: farmer, carpenter, cabinet maker. In 1880, the family resided in Chicago at 581 W. 16th Street. Ferdinand immigrated to the US in 1862 from Germany. He arrived in California in 1885, and moved to Rancho Santa Fe in 1887 to start the ranch (Ref: death certificate). He is buried in the Olivenhain Colony Cemetery. Reference: The book "Colony Olivenhain" by Richard Bumann (p. 33, 44): The Koehns came by rail from Chicago and arrived in the new German colony of Olivenhain on March 30, 1885. In 1887 they homesteaded land to the northeast of Olivenhain, near Rancho Santa Fe.
NAME: Wilhelmina aka Minnie NOTES: Came to the United States aboard the ship "Leipzig P." which sailed from Bremen,Germany & arrived in Baltimore,Maryland on 24 May 1872. Wilhelmina Fandre: Birth and death dates from death certificate. Minnie immigrated to the US in 1871 from Germany. Her parents were both born in Germany, and she was of French Huguenot descent. She is buried in the Olivenhain Colony Cemetery. The Huguenots were Protestants who were driven out of Catholic France in the 1600's and 1700's by King Louis XIV. Minnie came from Germany to America when she was 14 years old. (Ref: Julia Fidero Bohe and also Herman Wiegand, age 100, Aug. 1990). Born in Saxony, Germany (Ref: Vernon Fidero, 3-23-93 tape).
Koehn: Mathilde Minna Augusta Koehn was later known as Matilda Wilhelmina Koehn. Christening date: from baptismal certificate. Two of her children were stillborn and not named; One born after Ruth (child #8) and the other after Vernon (child #9). Birth dates of her 10 children were recorded 13 December 1932 at the Office of Recorder, San Diego, CA. Matilda is buried in the Olivenhain Colony Cemetery.
Amanda Koehn is buried in Olivenhain Colony Cemetery. She lived with her son Arthur D. Cole on El Camino del Norte at the time of her death. (Ref: Death certificate, and the book "Colony Olivenhain" by Richard Bumann, p.64-65). Amanda's husband Clarence Cole left the family (presumably after the kids were grown) and spent the rest of his years in Chowchilla, CA.
Koehn: Paul Koehn died at birth or in infancy.
He married Wilhelmina C. Fandre 10 Mar 1878 at Chicago, Cook, Illinois . Wilhelmina C. Fandre was born at Stettin, Pommern, Preussen, Germany 8 Sep 1856 daughter of Wilhelm Fandre and Augusta Rassow .
