Ref: the same source: Born 14 Feb 1862. When he was 5 years old, his
parents moved to Ottumwa, where he resided until he died. His father
(Ignatius) died when he was 11 years old. He was started working at
Kings Brothers cigar factory, worked his way up through all phases of
manufacturing cigars, became an expert cigar maker. He then went into
the cigar business on his own, operating a factory at the time he died.
He joined the (First) Congregational Church in 1892.
