Source for death date and place and parents: Rodney Hartwell, "Augustan" June 1970. -- Notes from Bea Polloreno. Quote from book: "Santa Cruz, the Early Years" by Leon Rowland (Paper Vision Press): "Joaquin Castro had trudged with his brothers and sisters in the epochal march of the Anza party in 1776. His father, Joaquin Isidro Castro, had been recruited by Anza because of his family of 8 children, which had been increased by the birth of Carlos during the overland trip. His mother, Martina Boutillier was French or of French descent and, according to legend in the Castro family, of noble birth. "Ignacio, Joaquin's eldest son, was a married man and a soldier when he was drowned in 1817 near San Juan Bautista while carrying the mails. Antonia married Antonio Feliz. Rafaela, born in 1799, became the wife of Francisco Rodriguez, fourth of that family. Two of the Castro brothers, 10 year old Rafael de Jesus and 1 year old Francisco, died in 1811. Jose Rafael, born in 1803, married Solidad Cota while in the army. Juan Jose, who was born in 1805, married Manuela Juarez and, on her death, Rita Josefa Pinto. Martina had 3 husbands, Corporal Simon Cota, Michael Lodge and Louis DePeau. Candida became the wife of Jose Bolcoff, the Russian. Guadalupe, born in 1811, died a bachelor in 1893. Jacinta, noted for her piety in aiding the Mission Fathers while a girl, became a nun and Mother Superior of the convent at Benecia. Maria de los Angeles married Joseph L. Mayors, early American, and presented him with 22 children. Ignacio, the last of the sons of Antonio Amador, married Ricarda Rodriguez, grand- daughter of Jose Antonio (Rodriguez)." -- Copied by Bea Polloreno.
