William Savage was a cabinetmaker. As a young man, he was press-
ganged (rounded up and forced to serve) into the Navy. (Reference:
Louise H. Savage, notes from trip to England in 1974).

Madeline wrote, "One of the ancestors on Father's (Harry M. Savage's)
side was in the British Navy in the War of 1812 and came over with
his ship to our (U.S.) east coast. Also there has been a cabinet-
maker in every generation of that family since as far back as can be
remembered." (Madeline, letter to us, July 6, 1969).
