Merit A. Peters Dies Here Sunday; Alfred Reiley Drowns in Wyoming
Sunday was a sad day for Mrs. Merit A. Peters, who lost her husband and her brother within a few hours. Mr. Peters died at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Atack of 484 Tenth Street, while the brother, Alfred Reiley, formerly of Woodland, was drowned at Rawlings, Wyoming. Mrs. Atack is also a sister of Mr. Reiley. Merit Peters, who was 68 years of age, passed away at the Atack home Sunday evening after an illness of some length. He is well known both in Clearfield and Woodland, having been foreman of the Harbison-Walker clay mines at Woodland for years prior to his retirement several years ago. Shortly after her husband's death, Mrs. Peters was apprised of the death of her brother by drowning in Wyoming. No particulars as to the nature of the accident were given. The deaths apparently occurred within a few hours of each other. Alfred Reiley was 44 years of age and is remembered here as a former employe of the Pennsylvania Railroad. He worked out of Tyrone for a number of years prior to going to Wyoming and was also at one time a resident of Woodland. He moved to the West about 10 years ago. Mr. Reiley is survived by four children, his wife having died a number of years ago. His body will be sent to Clearfield for burial, time of the funeral to be announced later. Funeral services for Mr. Peters are also to be announced later, together with a proper obituary.
