It was a log cabin out of Sanborn. Clearfield Progress Monday, 12 Jul 1965, pg 5 NORTH POINT - Mrs. Nora Curry, 79, of North Point, Indiana County, died following a lingering illness Saturday evening in Hedricks Convalescent Home, Punxsutawney, where she had been a guest for the past two weeks. Born in Clearfield County, Oct. 27, 1885, she was a daughter of John and Susan (Hockenberry) Rowles. She was preceded in death by her husband, Martin A. Curry, eight years ago. Mrs. Curry is survived by five children: Mrs. Clare Malmbert of Warren, Ohio, Mrs. Mabel Stiver of Big Run, Mrs. Ruth Robinson of Home, Pa., Frank Curry of Valencia, Pa., and Clair Curry of Pittsburgh; and 13 grandchildren. Friends are being received in the Ronald McDonald Funeral Home, Big Run, until 2 p.m. tomorrow when services will be conducted by the Rev. Ralph Brooks. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Curwensville.
Clearfield Progress 14 Jun 1949, pg 4 LEWISTOWN - Mikel Lockett, 63, of Lewistown, and a former resident of Boardman died at his home Sunday morning, June 12, at 7:45 p.m. He was the son of William and Lennie (Greene) Lockett, and was married to the former Mamie Rowles of Sanborn. Surviving him in addition to his widow, are four children, and the following brothers: Walter, Charles, Clayton and G.Lockett, all living around Madera. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Jun 15 at 2 p.m. from the Barchus Funeral Home in Lewistown with interment in the William Lind Cemetery.
Possibly wife of this Sherman Rowles: Clearfield Progress 25 Nov 1958, pg 6 Mrs. Nellie Helen Rowles, 61, wife of Sherman D. Rowles of Clearfield died in the Clearfield Hospital Monday at 1:45 p.m. following an extended illness of several months. She was born at Berwindale, July 25, 1897, a daughter of the late Edward and Margaret Fulkerson. She is survived by her husband and the following children: Raymond, Punxsutawney; Wayne, Rochester, N.Y.; Leonard and John, Clearfield. Two grandchildren, one brother and three sisters also survive. Two sons, Ralston and Andrew preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held from Leavys Funeral Home Friday at 2 p.m., the Rev. Harry McFarland officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. Thursday and until the hour of services Friday.
Clearfield Progress 1 Nov 1918, pg 5 Philip Allen Rowles, beloved son of Mr. and Mrs. John W. Rowles, who was killed in action in France was a member of the 320th Infantry Co. E. He was an employe of the Harbison-Walker brick works being called in the draft with which he was sent to Camp Lee and in June he sailed for France. He was a sturdy, industrious young man who made friends with all he met and was well thought of by all who knew him. He was a member of the Church of God of Sanborn before coming to Clearfield. He was 19 years, 8 months of age and leaves to mourn a sorrowing father and mother and the following brothers and sisters: Andre, West Va.; Mrs. Viola Barefield, DuBois; John H., Houtzdale; Mrs. Ella Swatsworth, Clearfield; Mrs. Nora Curry, Faunce; Lewis, Bigler; Mrs. Minnie Lockett, Boardman; and Lindsey of Boardman; Sherman D., in service in France and Raymond at home.
He married Susan Hockenberry 1875 . Susan Hockenberry was born at Clearfield, Pennsylvania Feb 1856 .
