Individual confirmed Feb 2003, as father of George W. Sandoe via Eberhardt-Sandoe family bible in the possession of Susan Braucher, daughter of Thurman Jester, son of Ethel Johnson Jester, daughter of Nancy Jane "Jennie" (Sandoe) Johnson who was a daughter of George & Elizabeth (Eberhardt) Sandoe. The data was on a piece of paper. Susan also noted that Agnes (Sandoe) Stauffer died in 1888 at age 32 years, 9 months. Also that "Grandpa Sandoe" who would be George W. Sandoe had an uncle named William H. Sandoe who was killed in the battle of Cold Harlain, Virginia in June 1864. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Individual found on the 1880 Census for Bulter, Butler Co., PA FHL Film: 1255108 / NA Film No.: 1255108 / NA File No.: T9-1108 / Page No.: 59D W.B. Sandoe via Eberhardt-Sandoe family bible in the possession of Susan Braucher, daughter of Thurman Jester, son of Ethel Johnson Jester, daughter of Nancy Jane "Jennie" (Sandoe) Johnson who was a daughter of George & Helen (Eberhardt) Sandoe. A piece of paper was found in the bible that recorded the following: " Rev. Wm. B. Sandoe - born 1815 died 1890. His wife (don't have her name) was born in 1817 and died in 1909 at Canton, Ohio. They were Grandpa Sandoe's parents. Grandpa's sister Agnes Stauffer died in 1888 aged 32 yr. 9mo. Grandpa Sandoe's uncle William H. was killed in battle of Cold Harlain, Virginia in June 1864. " Suspect that this note was written by Nancy "Jennie" Sandoe Johnson as she seems to be the last one who recorded information in the bible. Grandpa Sandoe mentioned above would then be George W. Sandoe. We know from George's death certificate that William B. Sandoe is his father. Not sure if note means he had an Uncle William H. Sandoe, as his father's name was William B. Sandoe, so that seems unlikely. Perhaps he had an Uncle William H. Allvord. Research on the internet at http://www.usgennet.org/usa/ne/county/gage/books/senebios/0045.htm found a William H. Allvord, but he survived the Civil War. Interestingly, he eventually settled in Nebraska a state where some Sandoe's also settled. This bio on this William Allvord noted his parents as George Allvord and Mary Shumper who had six sons and five daughters. It notes that five of the sons: H. Fred, David, William H., George and Jacob served in the Civil War and then stated that three were wounded, David, William H. and Jacob, and that those three returned home to their family. It does not mention the other two, H. Fred and George - if we find one of those two died in the Battle of Cold Harlain, Virginia then we probably have Nancy's family. This William H. Allvord is also found on the 1880 census for Highland, Gage, NE with wife Martha and daugther Mary, age 16. The bio includes another daughter Sarah. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Individual found on the 1880 Census for Bulter, Butler Co., PA FHL Film: 1255108 / NA Film No.: 1255108 / NA File No.: T9-1108 / Page No.: 59D W.B. An Internet search will also bring up "History of the Church of God" reference to several Sandoe ministers, William B., and his son Henry H. and another George Sandoe who is perhaps a brother or cousin of William B. Sandoe. There are three Sandoe ministers noted in the "History of the Church of God" found easily on the Internet. They are George Sandoe, WB Sandoe and HH Sandoe. A biography for H.H. Sandoe was found on the Internet and it notes that he was born Dec 1841 in Schuylkill Co., PA. The family of George W. Sandoe had always had his birthplace as Shenandoah, Schuylkill Co., PA, which would seem to match his older brother, H.H. Sandoe's, biography. Unfortunately, correspondence from the Schuylkill County Historical Society revealed that "Shenandoah" did not exist until 1870, nearly 30 years after H.H. Sandoe and George W. Sandoe were born. A search of the earlier townships revealed no Sandoe's in any of their records. The Sandoe ministers noted in the "History of the Church of God" were recorded as having been in Butler County, PA, Medina County, OH and Wooster, OH - all cities associated with our branch of the Sandoe family. ---------------------------------

Individual confirmed Feb 2003, as a son of William B. and Nancy (Allvord) Sandoe from biographical sketch found on the Internet at http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~tfisher/fphfairfieldbios.htm which states: "Sandoe, Rev. H.H., pastor of the Reformed church at Baltimore, Ohio was born in Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania, December 27, 1841; son of Rev. W.B. and Nancy (Allvord) Sandoe, the former of whom as been a minister of the Reformed church since 1851, and is still officiating as such in one of his former fields of labro, in Schuylkill County, Pennyslvania. He was, during many years past, been stationed at various points in Michigan, Indiana and Ohio. Rev. H.H. Sandoe was a pupil of the common schools until reaching the age of sixteen, when, for some three years, he was engaged at farming and clerking in Elkhart County, Indiana, and at Signey, Shelby county, Ohio until August 1861, when he enlisted in Company B, Twentieth OVI and with that regiment participated in some thirty-nine engagements from Ft. Donaldson to the surrender of J.E. Johnston to General Sherman, near Raleigh, North Carolina, making the march to the sea, taking part in the grand review at Washington, and after four year's faithful service to his country, was mustered out at Camp Chase in July 1865. In September of the following year Mr. Sandoe entered Heidelberg College at Tiffin, OH, remaining there four years and in February 1870 he was ordained to the ministry, "by a committee of Tiffin classics." His first field was at Liberty Centre, Henry County, Ohio remaining there on year; and for a term of two years in Pulaski County, Indiana, following which he was stationed for the same length of time in Christian County, Illinois; also in Ashland County, Ohio for three and a half years, previous to coming to Baltimore, Fairfield County, in October 1878, where his charge consists of four different congregations, which, during the pastorate of Mr. Sandoe has been both spiritually and financially successful. Rev. Sandoe was married June 18, 1868, to Miss Eliza M. Barton, of Monroe, Michigan. Their union is blessed by one daugther and one son - Lydorah O., born in Tiffin, Ohio, October 6, 1868, now a pupil at Pleasantville Collegiate Institute; and Dee Nevin, born in Baltimore Ohio, March 16, 1882." Sandoe had always had his birthplace noted as Shenandoah, Schuylkill Co., PA, which would seem to match. However, this researcher contacted The Historical Society of Schuylkill County and received an answer dated 17 Dec 2002 stating: "Shenandoah was formed out of Mahanoy Township about 1870. Mahanoy was formed from Rush Township about 1843. I checked the Rush Township census records for 1840 and 1850. I was unable to locate the Sandoe name. Counties were not required to maintain vital statistics until 1897. Therefore, we must rely on Church records and newspaper articles for such information. We have no records for Rush Township. Signed: H.T. Crown, Research Volunteer" Shenandoah did not exist as a township at the time Henry and George were born. Although Henry's biography notes his birthplace as Schuylkill County, the Historical Society there found no mention of the Sandoe surname in their records. ------------------------------------------------------------------
The family has always had that George W. Sandoe was born 16 Dec 1842 in Shenandoah, Schuylkill Co., PA. Correspondence from the Historical Society of Schuylkill County dated 17 Dec 2002 stated: "Shenandoah was formed out of Mahanoy Township about 1870. Mahanoy was formed from Rush Township about 1843. Crown, Research Volunteer" There is an Eberhardt family bible as of Feb 2003 it was in the possession of Thurman Jester of Wooster Ohio. In that bible George is listed with birthdate of 16 Dec 1842 and Helen Eberhardt's birthdate is listed as 18 Aug 1844. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Death date obtained at the website of the Ohio Historical Society November 2002: http://www.ohiohistory.org/dindex, SANDOE, George W. date of death: 28 Jul 1915, County of Cuyahoga, Ohio, Volume #: 1687, Certificate No.: 37904 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 1880 Census Canal Fulton, Stark Co, Ohio Family History Library Film: 1255067 NA File Number: T9-1067 Page Number: 47D (note surname transcribed on census transcript incorrectly) George SANDRE, 38, Born: PA, Occupation: Peddler Both parent's born: both in PA Ellen SANDRE, 37, Born: OH, Occupation: Housekeeper, Father: PA Mother: OH John SANDRE, 10, Born: OH, Occupation: Goes to school Jennie SANDRE, 8, Born: OH James A. Sandoe in Butler County PA who also had ties to some other places familiar to the family such as Wayne, Cuyahoga and Summit Counties in Ohio and Wooster, Ohio. Refer to the History of the Church of God easily found on the Internet for more information. Unfortunately, this history did not provide any biographical sketches on any of the ministers. The Reverend George Sandoe was born about 1827, too old to be our George. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- During conversation with Norman "Wayne" Sandoe on 6 Dec 2002, he stated that he discovered a George W. He said that he spoke with Clyde Ellsworth Sandoe, Sr., about it and was told that the George who died in Gettysburg was a "distant Uncle" of Clyde's and he said that Clyde explained and described the monuments to the soldier George in Gettysburg. As an adult, Wayne visited Gettysburg and discovered the parks and monuments as Clyde described them. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 22 Feb 2003 received copy of death certificate: CERTIFICATE NO.: 37094, Reg. Feb 2003 - A piece of paper was found in the Eberhardt-Sandoe family bible that recorded the following: " Rev. Wm. B. Sandoe - born 1815 died 1890. Attempted to contact Dalice via email but it was returned as the email address was no longer valid. Still without that additional confirmation this researcher believes that the above is correct given the overwhelming use of first names found in the family, i.e., George, Nancy, Minerva, Agnes and the Stauffer last name. Sherman's sister, Agnes, also married a Stauffer. Also, Dalice Fadden's heading was "Stauffer Family of Schuylkill County, PA" - yet another connection to Schuylkill County. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Individual also found Apr 2003 along with his sister, Agnes V.
