LIEUTENANT COMMANDER LEE A. YOUNG, MSC MARCH 11, 2001 Lieutenant Commander Lee A. Young, MSC, U.S. Navy, retired, age 91, a resident of Seven Lakes Condominiums, Ft. Myers, FL, died at Southwest Florida Regional Medical Center on March 11. He was born in Jersey Shore, PA, Oct. 23, 1909, the son of Perry Allen Young and Anna Sidney Robb. He enlisted in the Navy in 1929, as a hospital corpsman, and was commissioned in 1942. He served at sea and with various Marine units in WWII in the Southwest Pacific and elsewhere. After his retirement from the Navy in 1959, he joined Blue Shied of PA, establishing and directing the Utilization Control Dept. This became the model for numerous other Blue Shield Plans throughout the U.S. In that capacity he was the organizer and first Part B Medicare Claims Administrator for Pennsylvania. Following a tenure at Dauphin County Hospital as its Administrator, he and his wife Lillian retired in 1973 to Seven Lakes. This was their 36th home throughout the United States, Panama, and Japan since their marriage in 1930. At Seven Lakes, he was Building Representative, and Chairman of the Condo Representatives, Chairman of the Finance Committee, the first elected Resident Board Trustee, and, Vice President of the Board of Trustees. He was a golfer for over 40 years, holding many positions in golf organizations. He was a member of the Retired Officers Association, Scottish Rite of Ft. Myers, FL, the Sudan Temple, of New Bern, NC, and a fifty-year member of the Zembo Temple of Harrisburg, PA. Lee was a frequent contributor to many newspapers and newsmagazines. He cared deeply about national issues and local issues as well as the organizations to which he belonged. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Lillian E. Williamson, and his daughter, Patricia Anne Vail of Rowlett, TX. He is survived by his son-in-law, Joseph L. Vail of Allen, TX, his grandchildren, Joseph L. Vail, Jr., of Elgin, TX, Christopher L. Vail, of Coupland, TX, Jennifer Allison, of Richardson, TX, his great grandchildren, Chelsea and Thomas Aldrich of Richardson, TX, his sisters-in-law, Edith Forehand, of Ft. Myers, FL, and Dorothy Redding, of Virginia Beach, VA, and many great nieces and nephews, plus a devoted and long-term family friend, Ms. GeorgeAnn Sowders, of Seven Lakes. He leaves us with a thought penned before his death: "To those I leave behind, I'm sorry that I may not always have shown how much I really cared for you". Arrangements were made by Harvey-Engelhardt Funeral Home with internment to be at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA, at 1:00 p.m., April 19, 2001.
