Letter dated April 27, 1956 to Laura E. Corrigan Sandoe from the Law Offices of Conrad & Kane, Tacoma Washington:

Mrs. Laura E. Corrigan Sandoe
32 Mayfield Heights
Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania

Dear Mrs. Sandoe:
This will acknowledge your letters of June 30th and August 16, 1955 in answer to mine of June 23rd, containing information which I requested, confirming your relationship to James W. Corrigan through your grandfather, Johnston Corrigan and his second wife, Sarah Corrigan. Kindly refer to my letter of June 23rd to reacquaint yourself with the research I have been doing over an extended period with our Ohio attorneys to develop the family tree of Johnson Corrigan (grandfather of James W. Corrigan) to determine the next of kin of James W. Corrigan, who may have a contingent interest in approximately $23,000,000.00 left in trust under the latter's will which is now under litigation in Painsville, Ohio. Pursuant to authorization, I was taking the deposition of my client, Nettie Stuart, to establish the Mary Corrigan Hall branch of the family, when Mrs. Stuart brought to my attention the fact that Johnston Corrigan had been married twice, and that he had a second family by Sarah Wood Corrigan (your grandmother). Mrs. Stuart gave me the address of Ida G. Stephenson Cambell (your cousin) and I wrote to her to confirm this fact. Upon confirmation the deposition of Mrs. Stuart was postponed and I immediately developed the second branch of the family by correspondence. When completed, the facts were brought to the attention of the Court and the plaintiffs attorneys thereafter prepared a "Third Amended and Supplemental Petition for Declaratory Judgment and Relief" to include the newly discovered Sandoe, Casbourne and Stafford families. Copies of the above mentioned petition have now been received by the respective members of these families. Thus, you can see that we brought your branch of the family to the Court's attention so that their respective interests may be protected. As newly discovered defendants you will want to file an answer to the Petition in the near future or be barred forever from asserting any right, title or interest in or to the corpus of the James W. Corrigan Trust. It is my considered opinion that the chances for recovering anything out of the James W. Corrigan estate by virtue of the Lake County, Ohio action are remote and have very little pecuniary value at the present time. However, the stakes, $23,000,000.00 are so high that even though it is a long shot it is worth the expense of court costs and attorneys fees with the Mary Corrigan Hall branch, in protecting your mutual interest, I would be willing to accept employment. Your interests are identical and it would lower the cost for everyone. In any event, we are now in a position to complete the above mentioned deposition of Mrs. Stuart to establish the next of kin of James W. Corrigan. In that connection I am sending a copy of this letter to each member of your family requesting that they refer to Page 13 to 18 of the "Third Amended and Supplemental Petition for Declaratory Judgment and Relief" to determine whether their names and relationships have been properly and correctly stated, and reply to me even though correct, so I can complete my assignment. In addition to representing the Mary Corrigan Hall branch of the family in the above mentioned action, I have a personal interest in this matter, as my wife, Mae Elizabeth Conrad, and my sons, Tod Conrad and Carl Conrad, (Page 14 of the Petition) along with my wife's relatives, are next of kin of James W. Corrigan. Kindly give the above matters your early attention as it is my sincere desire to complete the deposition of Mrs. Stuart, to be forwarded to the Probate Court of Lake County in Painsville, Ohio in order that this matter may be set for trial at the earliest possible date. Should you desire my representation in the above action arrangements will be made for a nominal retainer of $100.00 and the execution of a Power of Attorney.
Sincerely,
Carl C. Conrad
