Randolph Vaughan was a Confederate soldier, serving in the 2nd Georgia Cavalry, Company I. During his service, he received a gunshot wound in the chest. The bullet remained in his body for 22 years, during which time it dropped 14 inches through his body. It was finally surgically removed, and the wound healed, but much damage had been done, probably contributing to his death. Cause of death was stated by the attending physician to be kidney trouble and bronchitis.Randolph received a disability pension for many years, and his wife Margaret received a widow's pension following his death.
