William Stockton from OH (MO) His family originally came from KY and a
relative of Richard Stockton, a signer of the Declaration of Independence.
His mother was Margaret Divinia, whose family came from Greensboro, NC, in ox
wagons to St. Louis in 1846, then ot Liberty Landing, finally Old Haynesville,
and scattered over this section .. many of the descendents. On Feb. 26, 1885,

in 1865, a soldier not yet discharged from the Union Army. Mr. Stockton
visited his grave at Jefferson Barracks, St. Louis, a few years ago. So, being
fatherless, he learned self reliance as he grew up with primitive equipment of
this community. He farmed most of his life. His record for industry, sobriety,
honesty and courage has never been questioned successfully, if at all. Sam
Stockton's was as good as his bond. Of splendid physique, he endured past all
expectations until recent months. He and his family belonged to the Prairie
Ridge Christian Union Church. He served on the official board of the Church
and of the local rural school."
