"James Long, was born in (the Fall of) 1789 in Orange County, Virginia. His second marriage was on November 2, 1844 to a Zenith "Asenath" ________, in Elkhart County, Indiana. Asenath was born in Ohio in 1811/12 The family is found in the 1850 Indiana census in Jackson Township, Elkhart County. They moved to Oregon, arriving September 22, 1853. James received a donation land claim (#2901) in Clackamas County, Oregon. He settled the claim September 6, 1854. The 1860 census lists the family in the Lower Molalla Precinct in Clackmas County, Oregon. Sometime between when the 1860 census was taken for Clackamas County, and November of 1864, James died. "Asseneth" married James S. Vinson on November of 1864 in Clackamas County. The family later moved to an area between Pendleton and Willow Creek in Umatilla County, where they are found in the 1870 census. James Vinson was born in 1808/9 in Ohio, and has a son listed with the family named George M. Vinson, who was born in 1846/7 in Iowa. With "Asenath" are four of her sons and two of her daughters." 1989: Information from Kent Haldorson, 4860 SW Laurelwood Dr., Portland, Oregon 97225. "The couple arrived in Oregon in September of 1852. John received a donation land claim (#2907) in Clackamas County, Oregon. They settled it that November or December."
His first name has been spelled Baunfield and Bamfield.

Long b. in Virginia, came to Oregon with his parents, James Long in 1852; Rebecca Garrett with her parents John D. Garrett, in 1847, they were found at Weston, Oregon in 1870. They moved to Heppner some time after that when they moved to LaGrande, Oregon after 1893. They are buried at the Grand View Cemetery at LaGrande.
