Thomas DUNGAN
LOUISE THIESSEN, "KENWORTHYS MARRY", 1990, PG 188; married c1663 Elizabeth Weaver; Thomas came to RI in 1637; educated under Roger Williams and his brother Robert, who was schoolmaster in Newport, RI. He studied the ministry under his step-father Rev. William Vaughn. Rev. Dungan was attracted to PA and purchased 200a from William Penn. Starting in 1655, he was active in RI government. APR 1678, representative from East Greenwich to RI Assembly. His b-i-l Sgt. Clement Weaver was the other Rep. His 1/2 brother Walter Clarke was then Deputy Governor of RI. Thomas served 2 terms. About 1670 he acquired 240 acres in Shrewsbury, Monouth Co., NJ, which he sold in 1674. This land was near his mother and Stepfather. In JUN 1682, he sold his 100 acres in East Greenwich, RI as well as 50 a in Newport, RI in SEP 1682. He moved to Cold Springs, Bucks Co., PA where he founded the First Baptist Church, and lived there until his death. His will was dated 3 DEC 1686; proved 24 NOV 1687; recorded 1 FEB 1688. Witnesses: Arthur Cooke, John Cook; Inventory by Edmond Lovet and Abraham Cox, 1 DEC 1587 for 67 pounds.
