vol2, pp 152-156; Will of JOHN WADDLE: In the name of God Amen I John Waddle of
Ohio County and State of Virginia being weak in body but of sound mind and
memory, thanks be to God for his mercies calling to mind the uncertainty of
life and the uncertainty of death, and that it is appointed for all men once to
die do make and ordain this my last will and testament hereby revoking all
former wills, parts of wills, or codcils by me heretofore made ratifying and
confirming this and this only to be my last will and testament.
     In the first place I desire to give my imortal part to the God that gave it,
and my body to the earth from whence it was taken, to be buried in decent
Christian like manner at the discretion of my executors, hereinafter named, and
as it respects my earthly estate has pleased the Almighty to bless me I give
and dispose of the same in the following manner to wit:
     I give, devise, and bequeath to my son JOSEPH WADDLE and his heirs forever
the whole of the tract of land on which I now live, together with all the
appurtenances thereunto belonging. It is my will and pleasure that my said son
JOSEPH WADDLE shall take good and sufficient care of his mother, after my
decease and furnish her with every convenience and accomadation which her
circumstances and situation may require during her natural life.
     It is further my will and desire that my said son JOSEPH WADDLE shall pay to
my son WILLIAM WADDLE eight hundred dollars ($800.00), to be paid in the
following manner, that is to say, one hundred ($100.00) dollars, part thereof
to be paid in one year from my decease, and one hundred ($100.00) dollars at
the end of every two years, after said first payment, until the whole be paid.
     I give and bequeath to my beloved wife MARY WADEL one half (1/2) of the
personal of which I may die possessed to dispose of as she may please the other
half (1/2) of my personal estate I devise to be sold by my Executors and the
money arising from such sale to be put to interest, thence arising to be paid
to my son JOHN WADEL during his natural life and at his decease, the principal
and any interest of said money which may be due to be euqally divided between
my two frandsons ROBERT STEWART the son of my said son JOHN, and JOSHUA WADEL,
the son of my son JOSEPH.
     I give and bequeath to my daughter ELIZABETH NEILSON forty ($40.00) dollars
to be paid by my son JOSEPH, when called for.
     I give and bequeath to my daughter MARGARET ATKINSON the sum of forty five
($45.00) dollars which she has already received.
     I give and bequeath to my daughter MARY PIATT forty ($40.00) dollars, to be
paid by my son Joseph at the end of two years after my decease.
     It is my pleasure that my son JOSEPH do pay to my son JOHN one hundred
($100.00) dollars to be paid as my Executors may think the said JOHN may stand
in need of the same.
     Lastly I do hereby appoint my beloved friends WILLIAM DUNLAP and DR. SAMUEL
McHEHAN Executors of this my last will and testament.  In witness wherefo I
have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this 27th day of March 1818.

     I do certify that the above will is a true copy from the original which was
proven in Court at October term 1818 by the oaths of Salathiel Curtis and
Rebeckah Creighton the subscribing witnesses thereto and ordered to be
recorded,  Teste, Wm. Chapline Jr, Clerk of Court.

    Elizabeth Wadell b Middleton, Cumberland Co., PA 4 APR 1774; m James Neilson
    about 1791. Together with her brother, William (m James  sister Elizabeth
    Neilson) moved to Wheeling, VA (WVA) area in 1795.  1802 James went down the
    Ohio and MS Rivers first to Natchez, MS, then to East Baton Rouge, LA.  Both
    buried in Penny Graveyard on Highladn Rd., close to Woodlawn.
Her death date can be inferred as prior to 28 FEB 1840 from the following
notice of that date in the Baton Rouge Gazette: "Mrs. Margaret McConnell, Miss
Mary Neilson, James J. Neilson and James n. Lea, the only heirs of the late
James and Elizabeth Neilson deceased, inhabitants of the parish of East Baton
Rouge, having the intention to emanciapte their slave Stephen (a mulatto) the
same being above the age ot thirty years.  All person who may have any legal
opposition to said emanicpation, are required to file said opposition in the
office of the clerk of the parish court of the parish aforesaid, within forty
days from the date of the present notice. Given under my hand this 28th Feb.
1840: Aug. Duplanter, Sheriff."
