    James m. Elizabeth Hayes 9 DEC 1796 in Washington Co., PA, 1 son, William b.
    23 JAN 1798, later a doctor in Lima, OH; Elizabeth d. 4 MAR 1800; after wife's
    death, James entered Cannonsburg Academy and studied theology under Dr. John
    McMillan. on 11 MAR 1802, he married Margaret McCracken; they had 2 children,
    Mary b. 8 NOV 1803 (m. Samuel Robinson of Stuebenville, OH) and James b. 1 JUN
    1805. Rev James grad. Jefferson College with BA Liberal Arts OCT 1805. Roaming
    preacher (presbyterian) in PA until 1808. Lic. by Presbytery of OH 30 JUN
    1808. Married 3rd, Rebecca Stockton, daughter of Robert Stockton, a ruling
    elder in the Buffalo Presbyterian Church, on 21 SEP 1808. they had 4 children;
    Sarah b. 7 JUL 1810 (m. James McCullough of Lima, OH); Robert Stockton b. 26
    JUL 1812; Eliza Jane b. 1814, d. 1877 unm.; Margaret Ann b. 1816-20 (m. David
    D. Wilcon). Margaret was known as "America's Lunatic Poetess" (She spent a
    number of years in the Central Lunatic Asylum in Columbus, OH) (*NOTE Dr.
    George Stockton, 1854-1917 was head of that Asylum)
