    "Mrs. Flo North Parkin compiled this genealogy sometime in the 1950's. Later
    in 1983, this editor learned that Mrs. Clayton Merrick, Acting Historian
    General of the General Society of Mayflower Descendants, discovered a serious
    error in one line in the book "The History of Treman, Tremaine, Truman"
    published in 1901 by Ebenezer Mack Treman and Murray E. Poole. The error is in
    the lineage shown in this book. Mrs. Parkin used the above history for the
    lineage of Martin Truman.
    THE ERROR: John Truman (m. Elizabeth Sexton) is NOT the son of Joseph Truman
    (m. Mary Shapely).."The New London CT Vital Records" by Barbour show that
    John Truman died 20 MAR 1738/39 without issue and his death is also verified
    in the published "Diary of Joshua Hempstead" on page 351. The Tremaon-Poole
    book actually shows this John Truman as John Tremaine and proceeds with his
    descendants. There is no question about the descendants of John
    Tremaine/Truman and Elizabeth Sexton. However John Tremaine/Truman was NOT the
    son of Joseph and Mary (Shapely) Truman. Therefore, the ancestry of John
    Tremaine/Truman still remains a mystery."

                   MARTIN TRUMAN AND HIS DESC. PG 5; Catherine married first, Mr. Miller and had
    two daughters; both died before her marriage to Martin Truman. Catherine's
    birthplace is given as CT in the 1870 census and her age as 74. They traveled
    to Ohio in 1831 and lived in the home of James Withrow and his wife Mary
    Stockton, the daughter of David and Ann Stockton and the granddaughter of
    Thomas and Mary (Fleming) Stockton.; Martin Truman died in late 1823.
    Catherine then married ? Chappel about 1829; he died prior to 1850 for she is
    listed in that census as living with her son, Martin Truman in Paint Twsp,
    Madison Co., OH

                   MARTIN TRUMAN AND HIS DESC. PG 6, 9; Mr. Withrow was united in marriage on
    January 27, 1833 to Catherine, daughter of Martin and Catherine (Gillet)
    Trumain - also spelled Truman in another History - and a native of New York.
    She accompanied her parents to Ohio when six years of age. Her father died in
    1823 and her mother in her 94th year. Mr. and Mrs. Withrow have been blessed
    with 12 children, 7 of whom grew to man and womanhood.

    Ohio. David Bales Stockton was a nephew of Mary Stockton Withrow, thus making
    the sisters, Catherine and Lucy Truman, married to cousins.
