John was born c1741 probably in PA, and died on 7 OCT 1827, in Delaware Co.,
OH. He was buried in the Old Liberty Church Cemetery, Liberty Twp, Delaware
Co., OH. He married Catherine McCoy, s/o Robert McCoy of Peters Twp.
In 1781/2, John was a private in the Revolution, serving under his brother,
Walter, in 8th company, 4th battalion, Cumberland Co militis, commanded by
Col John Scott, and received a pension for his services. John inherited his
father's plantation at Church Hill near Mercersburg, which adjoined those of
Robert Newel and Alexander Glendening in 1783. In 1814, John sold his farm of
158 acres 52 perches in Peters Twp., and moved to Delaware Co., OH with his
unmarried sons and daughters. (This was not the land he inherited from his
father). John had a considerable amount of money from the sale of his land
($12,000), which he invested in Delaware County land. On 24 JAN 1818, he
bought about 1,000 acres of land in Radnor Twp., Delaware Co., from Joseph
Margaret Dunlap for $3,200. Later, the land was given to his grandson,
Robert to care for his uncles and aunt. John's children were born in Peters
     Twp, Franklin Co., PA [afhk]
