     only child of John Stanton and Mary Clarke. Inherited land in Greenwich from
     his father. He died in SEP 1751 in Beaufort, Carteret Co., NC; married Mary
     Hull in RI by Gov Samuel Cranston, his 1/2 brother. He m2 Lydia Anderson in
     NC 1745
     In Newport, Henry was a ship owner and had a shipping business along the
coast. In 1721, he bought 2,000 acres of land from Joshua Porter near Bogue
Inlet, Carteret, NC, and moved there with his wife and 6 children in 1724. He
added to his land holdings and became one of the largest landowners in the
county. Duting the next 20 years, he purchased more than 2,500 acres in the
vicinity of Newport and Beaufort, NC much of it from King George II.
     Henry was also a minister in the Society of Friends and traveled to other
areas in NC and RI. In 1733, Core Sound Meeting was located in Carteret Co.
about 6 miles north of the town of Beaufort.  The group met initially at the
homes of the brothers-in-law, William Borden and Henry Stanton until a meeting
house was built in 1737.
     His very long will (1 MAY 1751-SEP 1751) was proved in both Carteret and
Craven Co., NC. He named his wife Liddia executrix, and gave her "the manor
plantation where I now dwell during her natural life or widowhood. My wife is
to devise other property as she may see fit, and she is not to be disturbed in
any way."  Court records in the State Archives includ a 2 page accounting in
1751-2, another on 10 AUG 1756, and a 6 page inventory and sale in JUN 1751 (no
names). Isaac and Thomas White and Elias Albertson were witnesses to the will.

     In his will, Benjamin said "my will and desire is that all the poor black
people that ever belonged to me be entirely free whenever the laws of the land
will allow it; until which time my executors I leave as guardians to protect
them and see that they be not deprived of their rights or any way misused". He
left 6 minor childre, Abgial moved with her children and son-in-law Aaron Brown
