Kidward (mother divorced) LYNDA SCHAAF, PO BOX 8, HAWTHORNE, NV 89415; 11/98: "STOCKTON DIES IN ACCIDENT - For the second time within a week, news of a fatal logging accident has shocked local residents. Pierce (Bing) Stockton was killed instantly while at work Friday at the Quincy Lumber Company log landing 20 odd miles southwest of Sloat, when a log slipped from his loaded truck while he was securing it with binders and crushed his head. ... (other accident) Stockton was born in San Jose, Nov. 24, 1904. He was a former member of the mounted police force in the Bay area and had been forced to retire from that office by an injury to his back. This spring he ran unsuccessfully for the office of justice of the peace of this district. He had lived in Sloat for several years and together with his wife had recently built a home there. Mrs. Stockton, who formerly worked in the office of the county clerk, had recently undergone major surgery in a San Francisco Hospital, but her physician allowed her to leave the hospital long enough to come up and attend her husband's funeral. Funeral services were held at the graveside in the Cromberg Cemetery Monday with Rev. Engdahl of Quincy in charge of the religious service. The flower banked casket was placed amid a grove of pine trees in the beautiful little cemetery; he has expressed a wish more than once that he be buried there. In addition to his widow, Mary, he leaves one daughter Dawn Jackson of Sun Valley in the Los Angeles area."
