News. We beg indulgence to give through your columns a sketch of the late
Rev. David Bales Stockton who died on Sat. 14 OCT 1886 of paralysis of the
brain at the advanced age of 68 years 8 months and 29 days. During the war
of the rebellion, he acted in the capacity of administrator to nearly every
estate within his locality, and during that great crisis accepted the
gratuitous trust of looking after the private farming interests of many who
had answered the call... joined Mathodist church 1858; 1868 received local
license to preach. buried at Oaklawn Cem.
...removed to Vermilion County, IL in Spring of 1848, They spent the first
year in the home of Harvey Sandusky near the town of Indianolaand they
continued to live in that area until their deaths.

Stockton and his wife Elizabeth Bales, on December 10, 1844 in Madison County
Ohio. David Bales Stockton was a nephew of Mary Stockton Withrow, thus making
the sisters, Catherine and Lucy Truman, married to cousins.
