Robert Lee Davis was a rice farmer until after WWI. At that time the rice market dropped out. Robert lost almost everything they had. They came and stayed with William Henry Davis. Also, Robert and wife Martha Jane Heard are buried 7 miles mostly south of Gueydan (pronounced gay don) on their farm. William Henry Davis was there when Robert died. Martha was boiling water to take the feathers off of a chicken. William was giving Robert a ride in a little wagon. Nobody was watching when Robert pulled the pot of boiling water onto himself. William said it was an awful scene. This per a phone conversation between William Henry Davis and Kreg Lee Davis during the fall of 1991.
He married Martha Jane Heard 26 Feb 1896 at Gueydan, Vermillon, Louisiana . Martha Jane Heard was born at Summerville, La Salle, Louisiana 7 Oct 1870 daughter of Azariah Bailey Heard and Eleanor Elizabeth Hair .
