Notes:
From Betty Nunnely Jones, Sprott, AL. Letter, 1965, to Lois:
"...The SITZES came from Germany...One of the characteristics of the SITZES is
their red hair. In fact Eliza Jane SITZ had red hair. Soon after Eliza Jane
SITZ married James Frank MAISE her father Isham SITZ and wife Sara BURNETT and
their other children moved to Sharp Co, AR...Jacob RINK (or RINCK) served in
the 8th Co. detached from the 2nd Reg. in the War of 1812. He married
12/25/1813 in Lincoln Co, NC. Mary SITZ daughter of Andrew and Mary SITZ who
lived in Lincoln Co. but later came to Etowah Co. where there is a will on
record in DeKalb Co. Francis RINK, father of Jacob, died 1811 in Lincoln Co,
NC, where there is a will on record. The will is in German and in it he states
his wife had left him...Mrs. Perry MORTON in Etowah Co. told me this story.
Sometimes these stories get mixed up but usually there is some bases for them.
Mrs. MORTON said her grandmother...always said that there was an uprising and
the SITZES kidnapped Francis RINK when he was 12 years old. They stayed out in
the harbor with him aboard ship. When some people 'got after them' they sailed
for America. Mrs. MORTON says she has a plate they brought over on the ship.
She believes Francis was of the nobility or they never would have kidnapped
him. I know that kidnapping was not uncommon in those days but they may have
brought him so they would have another worker when they arrived or either to
get more land under the head-right system. I am skeptical of the tale..."
