Heinrich Weidner, etc: 23 April 1910 "Hickory Times - Mercury" The Death of Mrs. Anna Hawn Mrs. Anna Seitz Hawn, the widow of the late Daniel Hawn, departed this life on 23rd of this month at the home of her youngest son, Mr. D.Efird Hawn, of this city. She had reached the age of 89 years, 5 months, and 22 days. Mrs. Hawn was one of 12 children and only two sisters survive her, Mrs. Sallie Hawn and Mrs. Kate Hollar of Morganton. She was the mother of seven children and only two or three of these survive - D.E. and P.C. Hawn. Mrs. Anna Hawn and three other members of the family died during the month of April. Mrs. Hawn retained her mind to the very last moment and death was a restful departure to her. She was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of this jplace. She was a good Christian woman, a faithful and devoted church member, a kind mother, and an obliging neighbor, highly esteemed by all who knew her. The funeral was conducted by her pastor at Mt. Olive church on last Sunday evening, and her body laid to rest there in the family burial ground to await the resurrection of the blest. The large attendance at these seervices testified to the universal esteem in which she was held.
Heinrich Weidner etc: March 1862 David Newton Hawn enlisted in Co. C, 28th Reg't, NC Troops with his uncle Marcus Seitz and his cousin Laban M. Seitz. Present with his unit until he was reported missing and 'supposed to have been killed' at Gettysburg, PA 3 July 1863. [Records of the Federal Provost Marshal indicate that he may have been paroled at Morganton 16 May 1865- North Carolina Troops, Vol. VIII:144]
