Matt S, as he later became known, and his family (including his mother Eleanor) moved to Barry Co., MO, living for a few years near his brother and sister. Eleanor was living with the Matt S. Miller family in 1870 when the census was taken, but we have no knowledge of her return to Tennessee. She died 20 June 1874 and is buried beside Cyrus at Shiloh Church Cemetery in Warren County, TN. Matt S. and family left Missouri 10 Feb 1873 and traveled to Dallas, Texas area where Edward Conway Miller was born 15 April 1874. They moved to Buffalo Gap, Taylor County, TX, near Abilene, and then to Bell County. In 1880 the family is found back in Taylor County living next to Malcolm Woodard, brother-in-law to Matt S. (He married Hannah Gribble, Elizabeth's sister). It is said that Matt S., shortly after 1880, told his wife, "Betty, if you think anything of this country, you had better look at it good--because we are going back to Bell County and never will see this country again." They went back that year, and Betty (Elizabeth) said she never saw Buffalo Gap again. Soon, Matt S. borrowed money, bought farms, and in the years that followed repaid his loans and became a very successful farmer and businessman. He and Elizabeth died in 1913 and were buried near Pendleton, Bell County, TX.
