                   Obituary from Firm Foundation, 8 May 1894: "On the 14th day of March, 1894,
Bro. Leander M. Seitz passed from the toils and conflicts of this life into the home of the pure and faithful. Bro. Seitz was born in Warren County, Tenn, 18 May 1840. He moved to Kaufman Co. Texas in 1848; from there to Bell Co, Texas in 1879, where he remained till the cold hand of death was laid upon him. He had been a member of the body of Christ for 30 years, and a preacher for 13 years. Bro. Seitz was loved by all who knew him. He leaves a wife, six children, and a host of friends to mourn his loss but we hope that our loss is his unspeakable gain. (poem)"

I, Naomi Martineau, have copy of a letter he wrote in 1865 to wife Lucy, while in the Confederate army: "Panola County, Texas, April 15th, 1865: My Dear Wife, I avail myself of the present opportunity of writing you a few lines in order to let you know where I am and how I am geting along. I am well at this time. I could not get my furloh extended, as I thought I would. Tell your father that Col. Ardis couldn't do anything for us, and we didn't get to see Col. Sandige, he was not home. If we could have seen him, he might have done something for us. I am going by home to get me another horse, you will pleas take good Care of my horse and Saddle, and when you write to me, pleas Say nothing about me leaving him at home with you. I have found it very hard work walking, as I am not use to walking, though I am in hopes I will be able to ride soon again, for I am in a hundred miles of home. Oh how bad I do want to see you. I would give the world if it was mine, just to get to stay at home with you, my little dove. I am staying a night with one of John W. Shaizes brother-in-laws, his name is William Bowen. Tell Mr. Hazyze[?] that Mr. Bowen's family is all well. I want you to write as soon as you get this letter, and give me all the news. Pleas take good Care of yourself Lucy, and don't get sick, for I don't know when I will get to come home again, though I hope to come soon. Give my love to Mr. Rich and Mother and all the family, and reserve a double portion for yourself. Believe me, dear Lucy, I remain your affectionate husband, L.M. Seitz"

   He kept a family book, all written in his own hand. He wrote dates, no places for his marriage, birth of self, Lucy Ann, Allice Eliza, Charley Lafayette, Cora Eveline, and death of Charley Lafayette and Lucy Ann ("Lucy Ann Seitz, wife of L.M. SEITZ, died June the 1st 8 o'clock P.M. 1874, aged 25 years eleven months and ten days.") Also a poem that he wrote to Lucy 8 June 1866:
Mine be a cot beside a hill
A beehives hum shal soothe my ear;
A willow brook that turnes a mill,
With many a fall shal linger near.
Oft shal the swallow beneath my thatch,
Twinter from her clay built nest,
Oft shal the Pilgrim lift my latch,
And share my meals a welcom guest.
And around my vivid poarch shal spring
Each fragrant flower that drink the dew,
And Lucy at her whele shal sing
In rusett gown and apron blue.
Also I have two photographs of Leander Monroe Seitz: One, a portrait with Lucy, and the other, an outside photograph with his wife Nancy and several children.

In 1977 I visited with Karen Herring, granddaughter. She said the Seitz's came from Schwarzburg. [She had a military record which she thought was for Leander, but it was the Spanish American War, had no name, was mustered in in New Orleans, and did not fit his description. This person was born in Schwarzberg.] They left because of religious oppression. They were "preachers, musicians, loved to learn, scholars, doctors." Leander made furniture. He made Alice a set of dining chairs covered with rawhide. She had a Bible which he owned. It had the name "George Seitz" on it, and the inscription: "Hic liber datus est G.W. Seitz per matrem suam. Habit multas nogationes et multa precepta quae hominem in vias Dei dingunt. Sit miki vivere secundum illas."
