1861 Census of Charlesbury Township, Ox., England. Letter dated June 13, 1997 from: Mrs. Kerry Phillips 23 Douglas Street Mackay Queensland 4740 Australia "My Great Grandfather was Luke Siford, son of Timothy Syphus and Harriet Pratley, born in 1858 Leafield, Oxfordshire, England. I had obtained his Marriage Certificate from Western Australia where his surname had been recorded as SEAFORD. So I been looking for the wrong name. I had all his children's names and they had been registered as SIFORD and that puzzled me for some time and I knew the years they were born". "I knew very little about Luke until I started doing family history only that my Grandmothers name before she was married happened to be SIFORD which my father pronounced as SEAFORD. After going through the 1861 Census for Leafield I now know why my G Grandfather was a timber worker too. They live in a town called Jarrahdale and I think it supplied timber for the building of Perth. I remembe going there as a teenager and what fascinated me at the time was they had lived in a little workers cottage and when they put the main road through, it was put around the cottage instead of pulling it down and going straight through. For many years it had been one of the few remaining cottages left of what had been thriving community in it's day". She stated in her letter she would send me a copy of her records.
