Notes for JOHN JUSTICE:Joyce (Justice) Parris of Swannanoa, N.C. in her book "Justis, Justus, Justice For All," gives the birthdates of some of the children of John and Mary Justice that appeared in a book on Vital Records of the Town of Halifax, Plymouth Co., Mass..John Justis married Mary Moor, 8/01/1728, Scituate, Plymouth, Mass., Second Church of Scituate, now First Unitarian Church of Norwell. The marriage records indicates that John Justis was from Hanover, (Plymouth City), Mass. ("Vital Records of Scituate, Massachusetts to the Year 1850", New England Historic Genealogical Society, Boston, MA, 1909, Vol. 2, p. 171). John Justis appears in the Mass. Records of "The Land Bank of 1740". There are six documents on file at the Mass. Archives that make reference to John Justis of Halifax, Mass. (Mass. Archives 102, 44, 102, 129, 136, 100-112.)Charles City County Orders 1737-1751, p. 101, Charles City County, Va. September Court 1739John Justice gave deed for property to George Baskervyle. Mary Wade, mother of John Justice, relinquishes her right of Dower to the property. Mary Justice, wife of John also relinquishes her right to the property. (I have no proof that this is the same John and Mary Justice, but appears to be.) John Justice (the elder) took land in Halifax Co, Va in 1749. (See "History of Halifax Co, Va").John had several land grants in Halifax County, Va..Virginia Land Patents and Grants(1) Book 33, p. 727, dated 7 Dec. 1756, 404 acres on both sides of the middle fork of Miry Creek. (2) He also had patent dated the same day for 400 acres of the west fork of Mirey Fork.(3) Book 34, p. 179, dated 5 February 1757, 400 acres on Echols Fork of the Sandy Creek adjoining Robert Moore.(4) Book 34, p. 869, dated 14 February 1761, 400 acres on both sides of Harping Creek.Halifax County Processioners Returns 1737-1770, 26 July 1756.John Justice, Sr. 400 acres on Miry Creek adjoining the 400 acres that he now lives on adjoining George Green. Also, 400 acres on John Moore's Creek.Halifax Co., Va Deed Book 1, Pages 231-233John sold 800 acres on Mirey Creek to George Evans on 14th December 1756, Wit: Richard Echols, Moses Terry, James Daniel, and William Moore. Also recorded in Halifax County Order Book 2, Page 186 in the presense of Nathaniel Terry, John Bales, Robert Wade, Jr., Thomas Harris, and Thomas Dillard.John Justice, Sr. sold 200 acres each located on Echols Fork to sons John Justice, Jr. and Simeon Justice. (Halifax County, Va Deed Book 1, page 374-378, dated 15th & 16th March 1758. John Justice left a written will in Halifax Co, Va, dated 11 March 1765, proven on 17 July 1766, recorded in Halifax co, Va., Will Book O, Pages 206 & 207.
