Was a veteran of the war of the Rebelliion, having been in the Battle of Shiloh and later in the defense of Vicksburg, where he was captured spending a year and a half in Federal Prisions.
He also attended colege.
In 1873 he purchased 100 acres of land one and one half mile west of toll town in denton county texas. the following year he married Nancy adamson and they lived on the farm for about 40 years.
One of their sons, merchant was a promient lawyer and a judge at Shawnee, oklahoma and was active in the historical fight to move the county seat of Pottawatomie county form Tecumseh to shawnee. The other son Lawson was a physician and surgeon and was co-owner of the Goose creek hospital at Goose creek texas. Now part of Baytown.
In additon to tree daughters and two sons, Carson and nancy helped to raise three on nancy's nieces, Ida, Demma and Fee fee Adamson.
