                   NOTE:
    Hugh Goolsby married a Martha, who appears to have been the mother of all of his children.  However, there is a marriage date for Hugh and Martha J Nance in 1874 which has not been reconciled.  Either they were legally married after their third child, or his first wife Martha died, and he remarried another Martha within about a month of John's birth.


Hugh was in the 9th WVa Inf. during the civil war. He is buried in Lodge Ridge Cemetery in Lawrence Co. and is probably the son of a Wm. and Clarissa Goolsby? (Clarissa was born about 1809/10.) Wm. shows up in the area's 1840 census and then Clarissa shows up in the 1850, 1860, 1870, and 1880. I quick check in the 1850 census would tell if he is their son.
