                   James was raised and educated in Stayton.  During the Civil War he served as a Private in Company E, 19th Tennessee Cavalry, C.S.A.  He served as the communities Doctor and Dentist when the need arose.  He was a farmer.  He was also a brick mason who built chimneys in Dicson, Hickman, and Williamson Counties.  On the 5th of Feb. 1857, he married Mary Frances Grimes at Springifled, Robertson Co, Tenn., with J. Woodard, Justice of the Peace officiating, who was a cousin of the bride (license filedin Robertson Co., Tenn.). James and Mary were members of the Mount Hebron Church, Dull, Dickson, Co., TN.  They lived on the home place near Stayton until their 11th child was born in 1880.  When their 12th child was born in 1882 they were living at Dull.  Mary died 30 Oct. 1905 at their home at Dull.                    Mary Frances Grimes wa born on 6 August 1841 at Springfield, Robertson Co., Tennessee, the daughter of Jesse Grimes and his wife Elizabeth Stark.  She was raised and educatedin that community.  James and Mary were members of the Mount Hebron Church, Dull, Dickson Co., Tennessee.  They lived on the home place near Stayton until their 11th child was born in 1880.  When their 12th child was born in 1882 they were living at Dull.  Mary died 30 Oct. 1905, at their home at Dull.  James died 30 Sept. 1910, at his daughter's (Zenobia Dotson Eubank) home at Charlotte, Dickson Co., Tenn.  Both are buried in the Dotson Family cemetery near Stayton, Dickson Co., Tenn. (TS).  Their children were all born in Dickson Co., Tenn.
