"From other accounts we learn that the new minister of the French Republic, who so announced himself to all comers, was thirty years old, of middling stature, that he had blue eyes and auburn hair; that he spoke English well; that his manners were engagine and he made a very favorable first impression. He had a quick temper, however, and showed little or no capacity to understand anybody who disagreed with him."
