NOTE: Lived in Yazoo County and settled near Benton where John was a farmer. In 1900 he was elected Constable at Benton and while carrying out his duties related to this position - 26 Sep 1902, he was murdered. On that day he was blasted in the right side with a shot gun by Go. V. Warren, a Justice of the Peace. The two men had been quarrelling for some time. John was burried at the Black Jack Baptist Church near Deasonville, Miss. He was survived by his wife, Mary and 8 children. Information from family records. His marriage to Mary Beatrice Cockerham 10 Nov 1881 came from the Vital Records, Yazoo County Mississippi 1845-1900 and also family records.
