Peter John HAUSSLER

                   The death occured yesterday morning at his residence 44 Brunswick St. of John Edward Heisler a well known citizen. Mr. Heisler who attained the age of 96 years and was one of the oldest residents of the city. He had been failing in health during the past two weeks but his death had not been expected so suddenly. The aged man was up and about on Tuesday and retired to bed early that evening. Yesterday morning he was found dead is his bed having passed away peacefully in his sleep.
Mr. Heisler was a native of Lunenburg County having been born on Tancook Island in 1824. He came to Halifax at 35 years of age and entered the employ of the late David Cronan, West India Merchant. After 26 years service with that firm Mr. Heisler went into business on his own account conducting a thriving house-to-house trade in country produce. In this capacity he was a very familiar figure and made a host of friends. The late Mr. Heisler was a member of the Tabernacle Baptistry Church. He was predeceased by his wife years ago. Surviving are his two sons, Stephen A. and George J. both of Halifax and one daughter, Mrs. Harvey Doane with whom he resided.
