RESEARCH NOTE: -William Munford Stubbs' obituary lists his father as William Stubbs, as do most LDS sources, though no exact information about Wm. M. Stubbs' father's identity is known. -A search of the 1861 English census, only three years after Wm. M. Stubbs' birth, lists only one possible William Stubbs in the count of Norfolk who could reasonably be the father of Wm. M. Stubbs. This William Stubbs is born in 1839, single, and living with parents Benjamin and Mary Ann in Morton, a small town on the west side of Norwich, very close to Costessey, where Ann Munford was born. This William Stubbs is 7 years younger than Ann, and would have been 19 years old when he became a father. Ancestral File and other LDS sources also give estimated birth dates for William that place him several years younger than Ann, though the evidence for why this was done is not known. -May have died Dec 1864. Not found on the 1871 census, and death record is found on FreeBMD for William Joseph Stubbs in Dec 1864 in the St Faiths district which includes Morton on the Hill. -A marriage is recorded between a William Stubbs and Hannah Rix in the end of 1861 in St Fath's district, which includes Morton on the Hill. This William Stubbs and Hannah Rix are living only a few houses apart in Morton in 1861. -The lack of another possible father for Wm. M. Stubbs in the area suggests strongly that this William is the father of Wm. M. Stubbs. Further research will be necessary.
