Notes for Charlton Yellowley:

General Notes:
Charlton Yellowly was the plaintiff in a "matter of controversy" and Edward Yellowly's
administrators were the defendants in the matter in Northampton County Court dated 1826-1827.
On a paper dated 11 May 1830, Edward Yellowly's estate was said to be liable for $25.08 of costs
to the courts of Northampton County in matter that Charlton Yellowly was the complainant.

On June 25, 2007, I sent a letter of request for the deeds mentioned in the "More about facts"
section. I received a reply from Velma Long, Deputy Register of Deeds for the county of
Northampton, N. C. returning my check and saying that they could not make copies for me
because the deed books do not come apart and suggested that I contact the N. C. Archives.
I can not afford to do that as the Archives charges a $20 search fee for each request. Making this
request would be about $200.00. I will have to go to the Archives and search the microfilm myself
unless I can find this at the LDS library.

                   RESEARCH NOTE:
-This connection is not positively confirmed. In the estate papers of Charlton Yellowly and Rebecca Yellowly, the name "Elizabeth" is scratched through 3 times and replace with Rebecca as if the person made a mistake. Elizabeth may have been the first Mrs. Yellowly. An Elizabeth Yellowly was listed in the death records of the Raleigh Register in 1825, as having died in Martin County, which is two counties away from Northampton. It has been assumed that this is the same individual as the possible Elizabeth, wife of Charlton, but more research is needed on this matter, including an acutal transciption of the Raleigh Register death notice.
-Also of note is an unsourced family tree on Ancestry World Tree which references several wills of the Goodwin family. It states that in the 1804 will of Moses Goodwin, a Polly Goodwin is listed as the wife of Charlton Yellowly. Polly Goodwin is also listed in the 1804 will of Jesse Goodwin, her uncle, as the daughter of Lemuel Goodwin. This Polly may also have been the first Mrs. Yellowly and mother of several of these children. Further research is needed.
