                   RESEARCH NOTE:
    Solomon Ewell and wife Lydia were divorced.  In 1766 Solomon complained to the General Court about "the elopment of his wife Lydia and her living in adultery with one Samuel Colten of Northampton County." Ewell wanted his marriage dissolved.  This Samuel Colten is undoubtedly Lydia's second husband, Samuel Cotten. (From 'Colonial Records of North Carolina.')
