Notes:
John Joyce, his wife, Caroline Augusta Perkins, and daughter Augusta Brannan, age 1, sailed on the "Brooklyn," which carried many Latter-Day Saints from New York around the Horn to San Francisco. There were 70 men, 68 women, and 100 children living in cramped quarters that only a child could stand up in. The men and women had to walk bent over. They met wth sevier storms around the Horn that blew them back into dangerous Antarctic waters The voyage took six months and covered 24,000 miles, perhaps the longest continuous sea journey of any religious organization in history.
