His unit, 22nd Alabama Infantry Division, was in Munfordville, KY on Sep. 17, 1862 and in Mufreesboro, TN on Dec 31, 1862. How he got to Okala, Mississippi on Oct 2, 1862 where he died I do not know. He may have been caried to a hopital there but why so far with Alabama closer?

Notes:
Note of interest by Elender Smith, granddaughter of Rachael Blake Owens.

Rachael married Tom Owens against the wishes of her family. Rachael and Tom had
a daughter. He went to fight in the War Between the States but before leaving
Tom kissed the baby and said, "Take care of my Darling until I return."
He never came back and when Rachael's family (the Blakes) learned Tom had been
killed they offered to take Rachael in (or take care of her) but not the baby.
She would have to give the child up. The owens who were looked down on by the
Blakes took Rachael and the baby in and took care of them until Rachael later
married Dr. Harris.
