The Essex or Essa Branch was organized at that time comprising 30 members. Alexander Hill, Jr. was ordained the Presiding Priest with John Richards as Branch Clerk. Alexander Hill Sr. came to Utah 9 September 1851 in the Abraham Day Company. Alexander Hill, Sr. owned property in Nauvoo, the full block 11, E2, at the corner of Barlow and Gordon Streets in Nauvoo.
