Obituary from The Mangum Star (Mangum, Oklahoma), p. 1, column 3, 19 Apr 1923: "Elisha A. Scott died of euremic poison at his home near Vinson April 4th. He was 67 years of age. The funeral was conducted at the home and interment made at Vinson Cemetery." Note: Brandi Taylor (Taylor Family Genealogy) states that Elisha was orphaned as a young child and raised by a family in Dallas Texas. Haskill Dee Scott thought that Elisha Scott was born in Tennessee. He and his sister were the only members of their immediate family to survive of the Civil War. Elisha had two Scott uncles in Dallas, Texas, Oak Cliff area, who had come west from Tennessee. Note: Elisha lists a different state for his birth on each census where he is listed: 1880 (listed as Elijah) - birthplace, Iowa; 1900 - birthplace, Georgia; 1910 - birthplace, Tennessee; 1920 - birthplace, Indiana. Note: Verbal interview with Henry Elisha Scott: Elisha Scott was born somewhere in Missouri. His parents died and an aunt raised him. He ran away from home at the age of thirteen to Arkansas. He became a farmer of cotton and grain. Sarah Young Scott was born at Gassville, Arkansas. Elisha and Sarah Young Scott had six children: John, Will or William, Robert, Clotilda, Rose, and Henry Elisha. The family moved to Coalgate, Oklahoma in 1897. They lived there until Henry Elisha was seventeen years old, and then moved to Mangum, Oklahoma. Note: In answer to a letter from Richard G. Scott in Aug 1961, the County Clerk of Baxter County Arkansas wrote: "Our court house burned in 1897. We do not have any records prior to that date." Signed, E.J. Princeton/Pinkston? The building actually burned 23 Feb 1890. "Some records were saved and transcribed. A few of the originals are preserved in a vault, yellow and brittle and charred from the fire." Obituary, Mangum Daily Star, Wed. 29 Dec 1948: SCOTT RITES ARE CONDUCTED AT VINSON TODAY. Mrs. Sarah E. Scott, 93, died at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the home of her daughter, Mrs D. A. Lamb. Services were at 2:30 p.m. today in the Vinson Methodist church, the Rev. E.L. Shumaker presiding. Burial was in the Vinson Cemetery. Mrs. Scott came to Vinson in 1910 and moved to Mangum last year. She was a member of the Methodist church. Two of her six sons and daughters survive her. They are Mrs. Lamb, Mangum, and Henry Scott, Amarillo, Texas. Other survivors are a sister, Mrs. Harriet Young, Arlington, Texas and a brother, Andy Messick, Wellington, Texas. Additional survivors include 35 grandchildren, 144 great grandchildren, and 19 great-great grandcildren.
He married Sarah Elizabeth Young 4 Apr 1873 at Marion Arkansas . Sarah Elizabeth Young was born at Rapps Barren, Marion, Arkansas 16 Apr 1855 daughter of James Charles Young and Lydia Clotilda Frizzell .
