Burial: McKains Cemetery, Pavilion Township, Michigan. 35th & S. Information received by phone conversation to cemetery, and from Rosabell Clark , his granddaughter. According to cemetery records he was 44 years old at the time of death. Information also taken from 1850 Census, New York, Monroe County, Town of Parma, F.H.L. #017,105 page 64 & 65.
Date of death taken from State of Michigan Record of Death pg 113 entry 808.
Cause of death was blood poisoning.
Information taken from certified copy of death certificate of Bertrand A. Elkerton and from a telephone conversation to McKains Cemetery in Pavilion Township, Michigan. However the date of death from the cemetery was 1899 and they say she was 52 years old at death. This means that the date of birth may be wrong. I received the 1852 and 1904 dates from Rosabell Clark, her granddaughter.
State of Michigan Death Record 1867-1901 Volume 1-2 Kalamazoo, Michigan 0984130 has her death as November 26, 1899 at the age of 48 years 7 months and 28 days. The original dates that I had were that she was born in 1852 and died in 1904, she died as a result of an enlarged heart. I changed the dates on the record to reflect the information from the Michigan Death Record. (May 30, 2002)
There is no record of marriage that I have found as of May 30, 2002 but in looking at the 1870 census Merinda was only 19 years of age and her oldest child, Jane, was 4 years old.

I don't know anything about Jane and Laura (as of May 30, 2002). Rosabell had never heard of them untill I found them on the census. They may have died as children before Bertrand was born.

Bertrand Elkerton was hanging wallpaper when he just keeled over and died. This information was told to me by my Aunt, his daughter, Rosabell Clark.
Bertrand was married once before on March 30, 1898 in Vicksburg. I haven't found out who it was yet.

In 1993 Gary and I went to Riverside Cemetary in Kalamazoo, their records say he was 36 years old when he died. He is buried in G-93.
I found his birth date on line in the Michigan Record of Births, Book 3 page 163 and his death record in the Kalamazoo Death Records 1922 page 23
He married Harriet Merinda Hampton 19 Mar 1870 at Kalamazoo, Kalamazoo, Michigan . Harriet Merinda Hampton was born at Michigan 29 Mar 1851 daughter of Jacob Hampton and Henrietta MacMurray .
