Information (the name only) given to me by Rosabell Elkerton Clark. George was in the Sea Bees as a Carpenter's Mate First Class during the second world war. He had his own business until the war started but had to give it up to go into the service. During the war he spent some of his duty time in Samoa and Saipan. He was a good cabinet maker and was always very precise in his work and always did his best. At one time he even made wooden shoes. He was married in Portland, Oregon to Alice Frances Meyers on July 19, 1945. (She wouldn't marry him untill he got back from overseas.) When he got out of the service he worked for someone else as a cabinet maker. The last place he worked was for Norman McDonald. Later he developed prostrate cancer and died at the age of 71. George was an only child. This information was received during a phone conversation on March 4, 1993 to Alice (Meyer) Elkerton in Portland Oregon, 7625 S.E. Hawthorn Blvd. 97215. 503-774-1887. She was 83 years old at the time. She said that she was 2 years older than her husband. He died at Kaiser Hospital and is burried in Portland.
