                   In 1900 Merritt worked in a tobacco plant in Deerfield, Mass so Florence (wife) could live with her father Aruthur in Pownal, Vermont, until after her 2nd baby was born Charles Jesse, but he died shortly after bird.

                   Grandma Myers (Florence) tells stories about how mean her mother (Mary Ann) was.  She says one day when she took the twins outside her mother punished her by taking a switch to her legs and arms, whereby grandma's leg was broken.

While Mary Ann worked for extra money sewing men's clothing, Flora had to watch all the children, cook, and clean.
