                   Arthur was married to Frances who gave birth to a son.  She died shortly after giving birth.  Her sister Mary came to take care of her.  Then the baby died.  Eventually, Arthur married Frances' sister, Mary.

Arthur worked in the mills and was injured.  The mills owner had a fam in Pownal and Arthur convalest at the Bears farm. Mr. Bears offered Arthur a job to operate his farm, yet Arthur had never worked a farm before.  So Arthur went from the farm to the city each day.

                   Mary Ann Murdock was the sister to Arthur's first wife Frances who died giving birth to John Kateley about 1883--Mary Ann took tried to raise him by herself before marrying Arthur.

Notes say Mary Ann gave birth to eight children and five lived--only have record of 6.

Grandma Flora says Mary Ann was very mean having taken a switch to grandma Flora and breaking her leg because Flora took the children outside to play.

Mary Ann wore a wig "transformation" wig because all her hair fell out because  of some dandruff shampoo purchased from a travelling salesman--she was five years old at the time.

                   Grandma Myers (Florence) tells stories about how mean her mother (Mary Ann) was.  She says one day when she took the twins outside her mother punished her by taking a switch to her legs and arms, whereby grandma's leg was broken.

While Mary Ann worked for extra money sewing men's clothing, Flora had to watch all the children, cook, and clean.
