Sylvester Henry Earl and Lois Caroline Owen got their marriage license 28January 1839 and were married 30 January 1839. Sylvester Henry Earl married Lois Caroline Owen 1839 in Schuyler County, Ohio. He met and baptized her on one of his missions and returned a year or more later to marry her. They moved to Nauvoo. He was present at the meeting and saw Brigham Young transformed into Joseph Smith, indicating to him and others present that it was the senior apostle who should become the next Prophet and President, and not the first counselor in the First Presidency nor anyone else. After the exodus from Nauvoo and at Winter Quarters, he was chosen by Brigham Young to be one of the first party to cross the plains to the Salt Lake Valley. He is listed on the back of the bronze plaque at the base of the Statue of Brigham Young at the top of Main Street and South Temple Street, Salt Lake City, and again at the "This Is the Place" monument at the mouth of Emigration Canyon. He entered the valley July 24th, 1847. He was sent to England as a missionary. 1861 he was sent to settle Dixie (St. George) with the cotton/silk mission. He settled first in Pine Valley and had a part interest in the saw mill there. He also had a water wheel driven wood lathe with which to make dowels for chairs and banisters. He was a bishop in Pine Valley. His photo is in the little room at the top of the Chapel in Pine Valley. Later he moved to Santa Clara, and may have been in Bunkerville. He was buried in St. George. He had a second wife, Margaret Emily Jones.
