Colonel Robert "Bob" W. Noce, 79, of Troy, Mich., died Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2005, at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Mich.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 2, at St. Alan's Catholic Church in Troy. Burial will be at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery, Washington D.C. Friends may call at Desmond & Sons Funeral Home, 2600 Crooks Road, Troy, Mich., from 2 to 8 p.m. today, with a scripture reading at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to organizations that serve veterans of the Vietnam War or the American Cancer Society.
Bob was born Feb. 15, 1926, in Washington D.C., the son of Lieutenant General Daniel and Mildred Wilson Noce. He married Mary Taylor Sept. 9, 1950, in Heidelberg, Germany. She preceded him in death March 17, 1984. He later married Pauline Haenlein April 13, 1985, and had 20 years of happily married life with her.
He graduated from the U.S. Military Academy (West Point) in 1949, and was commissioned at the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. He served his country for 30 years, including two tours of Vietnam (1963-1964 and 1968-1969) and a tour of duty at WECOM on the Rock Island Arsenal, 1970-1974.
After retiring from active military duty, he then worked as a consultant at Williams International, Walled Lake, Mich.
Bob and Pauline were dedicated members of St. Alan's Catholic Church in Troy.
Bob enjoyed reading, traveling and going to model club. He loved his family very much.
He is survived by his wife, Pauline; daughters, Barbara (Frank) Jolly, Charlottesville, Va., Julia (Gary) Spencer, Ellicott City, Md., Joy (Wayne) Loewe, Old Greenwich, Conn., Mary Vroman, Moline, Ruth (Andy) Holmaas, Winchester, Va., and Kim (Keith) Holbert, Beverly Hills, Mich.; several nieces and nephews; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two granddaughters; and a sister, Mildred (Toni) Noce Melody.
